Gate Protection
All our gates are sealed with a basecoat free of charge before they leave our workshop to protect them from the environment.
Both our softwood and hardwood gates are treated in a Teknos basecoat stain and three top-coats for maximum protection. Our softwood gates undergo knot treatment with a knot inhibitor.
Protection of your gate is vital for the prevention of water ingress. If exposed to any dampness or varying environmental conditions without a minimum of a basecoat, this will affect the stability of the timber. This should be followed up with topcoats as soon as possible. Treatment topcoat can be purchased separately, or you may want us to provide this service for you.
Gloss painting a wooden gate is not advisable due to the natural timbers needing to breath. But in locations where painting is to take place, care should be taken to use correct exterior paint to prolong the lifetime of your gate.
For block colours or professional staining, our gates are sent off at an additional cost to be primed, sealed and top coated for the best possible finish. More details on this can be given on request.
